Fresh from the official launch at Barcelona, we have learned that the new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be released in our market on 16 March 2018. Malaysia will be part of the first wave of global availability.

Samsung is certainly moving quick to get the Galaxy S9 and S9+ into Malaysian customers hands. The company has also confirmed that it will run a pre-order campaign which will run from 1 to 4 March.

According to Yoon Soo Kim, President & Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia Electronics, the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be retail at these prices:

Galaxy S9 64GB: RM 3299

Galaxy S9+ 64GB: RM 3799

Galaxy S9+ 128GB: RM 3999

Galaxy S9+ 256GB: RM 4399

As can be seen, this is the first time Samsung is introducing different storage options for its smartphones. This may seem redundant since the S9 smartphones have microSD card slots, but enthusiasts will appreciate the speedy UFS 2.1 storage used in the Galaxy S9 smartphones.

More importantly, the price for the Galaxy S9+ is higher than its predecessor. It has been rumoured as such, but the local retail prices are certainly pricey. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus retailed for RM3299 and RM3699 respectively, while the Galaxy Note 8 had a launch price of RM3999.

Three of the four colours will be made available for both models: Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple. Pre-order customers will also receive a Harman Kardon Onyx speaker.

In conjunction with the launch of both devices, Samsung will also be launching a trade up program to encourage users upgrade to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. We are told that the program will take place at Samsung Experience Stores, and will even accept non-Samsung phones.
