In a remark to member of the media, U Mobile has confirmed that it will be launching e-wallet service very soon. This was revealed by the telco’s CEO, Wong Heang Tuck alongside the extension of its shared service’s partnership with Ericsson.
According to Heang Tuck, the telco is currently waiting to receive approval for its e-wallet service from Bank Negara Malaysia. He added that U Mobile is expecting this to happen soon in which will allow the company to launch the e-wallet service within this year.
With this, U Mobile has just become the latest company with relation to telecommunication industry to join the local e-wallet scene which seems to be attracting plenty of players as of late. There are already quite a number of them in the BNM list including Axiata Digital eCode, Valyou, Maxis Broadband, and XOX Com.
Since we will be facing with so many options once all these e-wallet services begin to be available to wider audience starting from this year onwards, it will be interesting to see how all these companies will compete against each other in order to obtain trust (and business) from consumers.
