Being a graphics card company, it is not surprising that NVIDIA has a deep interest in eSports and is showing its commitment to the scene in Southeast Asia by organizing the GeForce Esports Extreme Tournament (GEXT) 2017 in five countries throughout the region including Malaysia. While the official announcement for GEXT Malaysia will be made at NVIDIA GeForce Day in Pulau Pinang tomorrow, we have the details regarding the tournament right here.

In general, the GEXT 2017 Malaysia is a Dota 2 tournament that is opened only to amateur players. Yes, you read that correctly: professional players are generally not allowed to participate in this tournament although it depends whether they are mentioned on this ban list or otherwise.

For starters, GEXT 2017 qualifiers will take place at 10 GeForce Certified iCafes in Klang Valley, Johor, and Pahang starting from 9 September onwards. Even before gamers could actually compete against each other, it will already be quite challenging since the registration only opens on the qualifying day itself and each venue will only accept up to 16 teams on first come first serve basis.

While we are not sure how many teams will be taken from the qualifying stage, the top teams from each qualifier will then be gathered for the GEXT 2017 Malaysia Grand Finals which will take place on 14 to 15 October at Mineski Esports Arena in Kajang. In total, the whole GEXT 2017 Malaysia will be offering cash prizes of RM 30,000.

Of course, NVIDIA didn’t forget to rope in several partners including Colorful, Cooler Master, Palit, Galax, MSI, and Thermaltake to spice up the event. To learn more about the GEXT 2017, head on to its official website right here.
