Niantic to Introduce More Than 80 New Pokémon and New Features on Pokémon GO Later This Week

For those of you who have been waiting for Niantic to introduce new Pokémon in Pokémon GO, your wait is almost over. According to the company, they will be rolling out an update “later this week” that will come with over 80 new Pokémon, along with some new features to “enhance your Pokémon GO experience”.

To be available later this week, the update will introduce more than 80 Pokémon such as Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and more. These Pokémon were originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games, and there will also be Pokémon with gender-specific variations. Unlike the previous update that introduced new Pokémon such as Pichu and Togepi, you will encounter these new Pokémon in the wild instead of having to hatch them from eggs.

Other changes to look forward to include:

  • New encounter gameplay: Pokémon discovered in the wild will react in new ways when you try to catch them. The encounter screen will also be tweaked slightly, allowing you to select Berries and Poké Balls directly from the screen.
  • New berries: There will be two new berries – Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries. To be given when you spin a PokéStop, these new berries gives you new abilities – the Nanab Berry will slow the Pokémon’s movement, making it easier to catch, while the Pinab Berry doubles the amount of Candy you receive if you successfully capture the Pokémon.
  • New avatars and an expanded wardrobe: You will finally be able to customise your avatar in Pokémon GO. The update will bring a whole new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items so you can finally give your character a whole new look.

Sadly though, Niantic did not provide an exact date for this release, so I guess we’ll just have to stick to the current game now, and keep our fingers crossed that this update will be rolled out soon.
