(UPDATE – 248PM, 17 Jan): As expected, Xiaomi Malaysia today has officially unveiled Redmi 4A. Available from 18 January onwards, even the details of the leaked price and release date are spot on. More details at the end of this article.

Originally launched in China last November, it has come to our attention that Xiaomi might be releasing its Redmi 4A smartphone in Malaysia next week. This is due to a clue left by Lazada Malaysia in one of its on-going contest.

In the Facebook-based contest, users need to guess the name of the new Redmi device based on the given pictorial clue. As you can see below, it is really not that hard to crack the clue. At the same time, Lazada also didn’t hide the fact that the device will be launched on 17 January.

Look at the location of the Mi Bunny: column A, row no 4. Hence, Redmi 4A. You’re welcome.

Even though there might be plenty of imported Redmi 4A currently being listed on Lazada, let’s not forget that the platform is also hosting the official Mi Store for Malaysia. Hence, the information from the contest does carry some weight to it.

Besides, Xiaomi did register a new device in SIRIM back in November. Nevertheless, it will only be official when Xiaomi Malaysia make the call. So, stay tuned on 17 January to see if the company will really launch its Redmi 4A in our market.
