U Mobile Introduces New UPackage, An Easier Way For Customers To Own An iPhone

U Mobile wants to make it easier for its customers to own the iPhone of their choice. The all-new UPackage does exactly that by letting customers purchase their iPhones via instalment, bundled with U Mobile’s iPlan with no interest rate.

U Mobile is offering almost all iPhone models from the iPhone 5c, 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, and 6s Plus. Interestingly, the iPhone 5 isn’t on the list of iPhones to be bundled with UPackage.

There are two plans to choose from – the i90 plan offers 7GB of data, unlimited calls and 45 SMS to all networks, whereas the i130 plan gives users 10GB of mobile Internet, unlimited calls and 65 SMS to all networks. These plans have a monthly fee of RM90 and RM130 respectively.

To qualify for the the UPackage plan from U Mobile, regardless of whether you’re an existing U Mobile customer or a customer porting in from another telco, your latest postpaid bill for the last three months has to show it is at least RM70 a month. You also have the option to either MNP your existing number over to U Mobile or sign up for a new number.

If you’re a prepaid user, you will need to upgrade to a postpaid plan, and provide the same three months postpaid bill that have been paid. This means that you need to use the postpaid plan (at least RM70 a month) for three months, only then you’re eligible to subscribe to UPackage.

Subscribing to U Mobile’s UPackage requires the user to visit a participating U Mobile store. Other than that, they will also need to bring along their latest three months’ postpaid bill, as well as their identification card. From there, they just need to select the iPhone and mobile plan they wish to subscribe to. Be reminded that the postpaid bill also needs to match the name on the Malaysian IC and credit card used for the instalment payment.

Do take note that upon subscription, the user needs to pay a one month advance of the rate plan and device instalment fee. The customer also needs to sign up for auto debit to facilitate the payment of the monthly instalment fee.

Based on i90 plan, iPhone 6s 16GB. Prices exclude GST.

For example, if a customer were to buy an iPhone 6s Plus 64GB on the i90 plan, his or her monthly fee to pay would be RM230. RM140 would be the device’s instalment price and the RM90 would be the plan’s monthly fee. For your reference, do check out the iPhone prices here, or the comparison table above.

Compared to the iPhone plans from other telcos in Malaysia, U Mobile’s UPackage does seem to offer more mobile data quota and a lower device instalment fee. Those interested can head on over to any participating U Mobile store to begin the subscription for their iPhone.
