Sony Unveils New Z Series TVs, Its Latest Lineup of Premium 4K HDR TVs

Back in April this year, Sony officially introduced its X Series of 4K HDR TVs in Malaysia. Now, the Japanese company has unveiled an even more premium lineup of TVs: the Z Series. Not surprisingly, this new lineup boasts even better display quality than the X Series; it also has equally premium price tags, naturally.

Sony’s latest Z Series TVs boast a new backlight system dubbed Backlight Master Drive. Apparently, this new technology allows the Z Series TVs to deliver black levels almost equivalent to that of OLED TVs; needless to say, this is very, very impressive for an LED TV. Other than that, the Z Series TVs are also said to be capable of delivering very high brightness levels along with almost no backlight bleeding.

Powering the new Z Series TVs is a new processor called 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, which is said to provide “40% more real-time image processing power” in comparison to the company’s 4K Processor X1 – the latter was found in Sony’s X Series TVs. The new Z Series TVs also support HDR10, a format that other manufacturers have implemented on their HDR TVs.

The Sony Z Series 4K HDR TVs will start shipping in the US later this summer. As for retail prices, the 65-inch model will go for $7,000 (about RM28,375), while the bigger 75-inch variant retails at $10,000 (approximately RM40,545). There is also a 100-inch model, but Sony has not revealed its retail price yet.
