Two Mysterious Xiaomi Devices Heading to Malaysia; Mi Max & Redmi 3?

This is quite a surprise. After announcing the official availability of the Xiaomi Mi 5 in Malaysia, the Chinese company seems to be gearing up to launch not one, but two more devices on our shores. Chances are, these two devices are the Xiaomi Mi Max and a certain variant of the Redmi 3.

As usual, we caught wind of this when we looked into SIRIM’s database. There, Xiaomi Malaysia registered two new devices with the model numbers “2016002” and “2016031.” When we did a quick Google search, the former device is in fact the Xiaomi Mi Max, although we weren’t able to get any particular Xiaomi device with the latter model number. However, based on the sequence of the number, we believe this mysterious device is a variant of the Redmi 3.

Of course, it is still too early to say if Xiaomi Malaysia has any concrete plan to release the Mi Max and Redmi 3 in Malaysia. After all, it took the company over four months to officially bring in the Xiaomi Mi 5 to Malaysia, which is hardly a timely launch.

Regardless, we will find out in the near future if Xiaomi Malaysia does plan to launch any new devices on our shores. If the Mi Max and Redmi 3 are officially sold here in Malaysia, it will be very interesting to see if they will be as disruptive as the Redmi Note 3.
