Build 2016: Android Notifications Coming To Windows 10’s Action Center, With The Help of Cortana

A prominent feature in Windows 10, Action Center is about to get a revamp very soon as the operating system gets closer to its 1st year anniversary this July. Expected to be released as part of the upcoming Anniversary Update, one of the new ability that will come to Action Center is cloud syncing.

For those who are not sure what Action Center is in Windows 10, it houses app notifications that apps notifications alongside a number of settings shortcuts called quick actions. On PC, Action Center appears when users clicked on its icon in the system tray or swiped in from the right edge of the screen while on Windows 10 smartphone, it comes in the form of a top pull down menu.

Windows 10 Action Center Update - Build 2016

With Action Center’s new cloud capability, users don’t have to dismiss notification on their multiple Windows 10 devices including Windows 10 Mobile smartphones individually. Called Universal Dismiss, they only need to dismiss it on one machine and it will be dismissed on other devices as well although these devices must be under the same Microsoft account.

The same cloud capabilities will also allow users to see notifications from their Android smartphone on Windows 10 PC – something that the dev team refer to as Mirroring. Users can even reply to these notifications directly from their Windows 10 PC but in order to make this particular feature work, users must first install Cortana in their Android smartphone and log in using the same Microsoft account as per their Windows 10 device.

Naturally, Windows 10 Mobile will receive Notification Mirroring as well. These features will not be made available to iOS devices though as Apple’s operating system is rather too restrictive for Cortana to obtain necessary access to make it work.

At the same time, the dev team will also implement design changes to Action Center as well in order to improve its look and feel. Expect to see the revamped Action Center in your Windows 10 machines later this year.
