vivo Unveils X6S & X6S Plus, Feature Snapdragon 652, 4GB RAM & Familiar Design

vivo has introduced the successors to the X6 and X6 Plus; two devices that were introduced by the company last year. Dubbed as the X6S and X6S Plus, these devices are much more capable than their predecessors, thanks to the new Snapdragon 652 processor.

While the new processor is definitely an improvement over the MediaTek MT6752 chipset used in last year’s models, the design of the X6S and X6S Plus are…not that different from their predecessors. In fact, the X6S and X6S Plus are so similar to last year’s models, they even share the same official images.

In retrospect, the lack of a design change is akin to Apple’s refresh cycle of its “S” iPhone models, which are largely similar in appearance to the model they are based on. This seems to be the case with the X6S and X6S Plus, with most of their improvements done under the hood. These include a supposedly better audio capabilities thanks to the AKM4375 DAC found in the X6S; the larger X6S Plus has a ES9028 DAC instead.

Other specifications of the X6S and X6S Plus include a 1080p Full HD AMOLED display (5.2 and 5.7-inch on the X6S and X6S Plus respectively), 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a rear fingerprint sensor, a 16MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus, an 8MP front-facing shooter, and a rather small 2,400mAh battery (3,000mAh on the X6S Plus).

As for pricing, the vivo X6S goes for 2,598 Chinese yuan (about RM1,560), while the larger and more costly X6S Plus retails at 2,998 yuan (approximately RM1,790). These smartphones will ship in China on the 5th of April 2016.
