Honor 3C’s EMUI 3.0 Update is Here, But It’s Not Available via OTA

Owners of the Honor 3C, rejoice; Emotion UI 3.0 – based on Android 4.4 KitKat – is now available for it. However, before you start the update process, there are a few things that you’d need to be aware of, such as the fact that this update will wipe out your data.

That’s right, this isn’t just a simple OTA update, unfortunately. Thankfully, Honor Malaysia has prepared a detailed guide on its Facebook page, which seems to require a microSD card as part of the guide. Here’s the step-by-step instruction:

If Honor Malaysia’s instructions are not clear enough, we’ll try to help by making things a little clearer. Before you begin, just make sure that you have backed up all important data in your Honor 3C as the update will wipe out any data. Essentially, this update is like a factory reset.

Once you have backed up your date, downloaded the update file (found here) and extract the UPDATE.APP file. You will then have to place the same file into a folder named “dload” in your microSD card. If the folder isn’t there, you’ll just have to simply create it.

With the UPDATE.APP file placed inside the “dload” folder in your microSD card, insert the card back into your Honor 3C and go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update. Your phone should then automatically restart to install the update.

It’s a little odd as to why this update isn’t available via OTA for the Honor 3C, seeing how it requires a bit of knowledge to follow the instructions effectively. However, to be fair, it’s quite a user-friendly guide. At least it’s not a full-fledged ROM flash that will definitely intimidate average users.
