Vivo has made an official announcement that there will be a price reduction in several of the company’s smartphones; specifically the vivo XPlay 3S, vivo Y28 and the vivo Y22. These new prices will all be inclusive of GST and will take effect immediately.

The vivo Xplay 3S’ price will be reduced by RM200 and it will now be sold for RM1,699. The device was first released back in December 2013 and it features a 6-inch 2K display with a quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip and 3GB RAM. It has been a while since the initial release of the smartphone but, it still has hardware specifications similar to many recent flagship smartphones.

In the budget smartphone segment, the vivo Y22 will be sold for RM599 while the vivo Y28 will be sold for RM699. The two similar devices that run on a quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. What sets the two apart are the screen size and the internal storage of the devices. The vivo Y22 has a 4.5-inch display while the Y28 has a 4.7-inch display. In terms of storage, the vivo Y22 has a bare minimum of 4GB of internal storage whereas the latter has 8GB, both capable of expansion of up to 128GB as its maximum capacity.

Interestingly, the company’s ultra-thin X5Max flagship device does not get its price reduced. Instead, the device retains its RM1,799 price tag, which now includes GST. The 5.08mm-thin device features a Full HD 5.5-inch display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor paired to 2GB of RAM. It also has 16GB of internal storage with a 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing camera.

Despite the prediction of ICT sales going down and prices of several smartphones going up in the wake of GST, vivo might be on to something with its move to lower its smartphone prices to attract potential customers.
