Will OnePlus’ New Game Changing Product Be A Drone?

At OnePlus’ latest AMAA Reddit session yesterday, Carl Pei, the Global Director of OnePlus, and OnePlus employee David touched a little on its upcoming “game changing” product. During the session, it was even mentioned that this product will not be a smartwatch or a tablet, but could be a drone instead.

The product codename, DR-1, is again a strong hint that the new product is indeed a drone. And judging from the teasers it has been posting, they all seem to fit into the description of a drone.

In addition, the company stated during the AMAA session that it not keen on Android TV boxes, thus ruling out the possibility of a OnePlus set-top box. But what is most telling could be an Instagram post shared by OnePlus in January.

Amazingly, the company explicitly mentioned that it had been playing with its new drone, but at that time it appeared like it was just a purchase from the team for fooling around with. But collectively, the above teasers and the Instagram post embedded below all appear to confirm that the next OnePlus product will be a drone, possibly called the OnePlus Drone.

Why will it be game changing? Drones are not widely used by many because of how expensive it is to own, let alone maintain one. The affordability of the product might be the game changing factor OnePlus wishes to sell to its customers, reminiscent of the One smartphone which offered great hardware at an affordable price.

With a launch slated for April it won’t be long until we find out whether OnePlus is really releasing a drone, or announcing an elaborate four-month long April Fools prank.
