Android users who have received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update would have realised by now that WhatsApp still sends you audible notifications even though you’re in priority notification mode. Thankfully, the latest WhatsApp update has solved this little annoyance.
According to Google, its priority notification mode is “working as intended,” and that it is up to app developers to ensure that their app is working properly with the new Android 5.0 Lollipop feature. By right, users who have turned on priority mode will only receive notifications from apps that have been placed in the priority list.
From Android 5.0 Lollipop onwards, Google has inexplicably ditched the silent mode in favour of this new priority notification mode. Perhaps responding to user feedback, the company will be bringing back the feature in Android 5.1 Lollipop.
If you have been avoiding WhatsApp because of this annoying bug, you can now go back to the messaging app with no worries.
