Just as our earlier report suggested, Asus has taken the veil off the ZenWatch 2 at the ongoing Computex 2015 event. Unlike its predecessor, the second-generation ZenWatch comes in two sizes: 49mm and 45mm models, much like how there are two sizes of the Apple Watch.
Just like the previous iteration of the ZenWatch smartwatch, Asus’ new wearable is also powered by Android Wear. The most prominent (albeit not by much) change with the ZenWatch 2 is the addition of a metal crown, which Asus claims will “enhance the user experience by a providing new way to interact with the watch.” However, as confirmed by The Verge, it merely acts as a power button.
While its fancy new metal crown isn’t anything groundbreaking, the fact that the ZenWatch 2 comes in two choices of size makes it the first Android Wear device to offer such an option. It also comes in three choices of stainless steel case colours (Silver, Gunmetal or Rose Gold) and as many as 18 different strap material and colour combinations.
Unfortunately, Asus did not reveal any specification (other than the AMOLED display that is protected by a subtly curved Gorilla Glass 3), price or availability of the ZenWatch 2 yet. It has told The Verge that more will be made known in IFA 2015, which will take place sometime in September. Asus is planning to keep the ZenWatch 2’s retail price of both sizes consistent, with the choice of strap determining the final price.
