Eyes On: Acer’s Predator Tablet, Built for Gaming

How would you even begin to describe Acer’s upcoming Predator Tablet? Let’s try.

Acer made a huge statement earlier today when it announced Acer Gaming and its re-entry into making high-end gaming products. While it was to be expected that there’d be the usual desktop, monitor and laptop designed for the sole purpose of extreme gaming, many were caught off-guard by the other addition to the Predator lineup: the Predator Tablet.

In essence, it’s a product that epitomises Acer’s adventure into high-end gaming. It’s all about the passion of making the best, if not the zaniest possible product that will satisfy the most demanding users. It was evident in the other Predator products on display, and the Tablet probably takes it one step further in terms of sheer business unpracticality – if there’s even such a word.

You see, high-end gaming products cater to only a small niche market – not many can splurge five-figure sums just to play games. That’s for PC gaming, so what more on tablets? We’re told that the Predator Tablet will be running on Android, which further shrinks the market this product is intended for. And when you consider the fact that this is very likely to cost quite a lot, it makes virtually no business sense to produce the Predator Tablet.

And yet, here it is – well, a dummy set at least. Besides running on Android, no further information was given – on hardware, Acer naturally says that it will pack the best chipset and display technology when it arrives in the market. Given the compact size, we believe it will likely be a 7-inch display.

But the Tablet epitomises what the Predator series is all about: making a statement that Acer isn’t just about pushing out millions and millions of regular, affordable notebooks and call it a day. Here’s a company that’s committed to showing the world that it, too, can build products with passion – like a carmaker with supercar pedigree.

The Acer Predator Tablet is slated for a Q3 2015 release.
