Here it is: the Asus ZenFone 2 is now officially launched in Southeast Asia. Just like last year, it is launched in a regional launch event held here in Jakarta. Unveiled back at CES 2015, four different variants of the ZenFone 2 have been revealed since then: the high-end ZE551ML, mid-range ZE550ML, and entry-level ZE500CL. However, it seems like we won’t be getting the cheapest model.
As previously mentioned, the high-end ZE551ML ZenFone 2 actually has two variants. However, we will only be getting the flagship model, which is equipped with an Intel Atom Z3580 2.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, and up to 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded with a microSD card up to 64GB.
The other variant of the ZenFone 2 that will make its way to Malaysia is the mid-range ZE550ML. Expectedly, this model is less-equipped than the flagship model. It has a 5.5-inch 720p display, an Atom Z3560 1.8GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and of course, a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 64GB.
In the camera department, both variants of the ZenFone 2 is equipped with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing snapper with PixelMaster technology for improved low-light performance. In addition to that, these ZenFone 2 smartphones will also come with a rather generous 3,000mAh non-removable battery. They also come with LTE connectivity and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
We already know that the Asus ZenFone 2 variants will be made available in Malaysia on the 9th of May, but unfortunately, their retail prices have not been revealed yet. If we had to guess, the ZenFone 2 retail prices in Malaysia should be about the same as Singapore’s asking prices, although this is merely an educated guess.
