MWC 2015: Huawei Shows Off TalkBand N1; Fitness Tracking Earphones

Huawei TalkBand N1

Huawei has revealed the TalkBand N1, a set of wireless earphones that also function as a media player and fitness tracker. The wireless capabilities allow it to travel with the user without the need for a smartphone, although it does have limitations when not paired with a proper device.

The earphones are connected by a cable that also acts as a tether for hanging the earbuds from the users neck. It has 4GB of onboard storage for music, which translates into about 1,000 songs. The TalkBand N1 connects via BlueTooth to any smartphone, as expected from device of this kind. The lack of cables helps when its being used for the intended function, with one less thing to get tangled on.

It features an onboard accelerometer that allows the TalkBand N1 to count the number of steps taken, which can then be synced to the iOS or Android app. There is no GPS chip installed, which means that people who want to track their workout locations will have to bring along their smartphones. It’s not a perfect system.

There is no news from Huawei about the availability of the TalkBand. However, the company says that it will be coming in the next few months; what that means is anyone’s guess. When it does appear, it will be priced at €119 (about RM480).
