Samsung has officially announced the Exynos 7 Octa 14nm SoC, which is aimed at high-end smartphones. More likely than not, this new processor will be powering the company’s upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6. If the leaked benchmark of the Exynos 7420 processor running in the S6 is any indication of the chip’s capability, this SoC is very promising.

The new Exynos 7 Octa is also built on a 14nm process, which Samsung claims will enable up to “20% faster speed, 35% less power consumption, and 30% percent productivity gain.” Although this doesn’t give us much indication of the new chip’s performance, it should theoretically consume less energy in comparison to a 20nm chip.

Other than that, the 14nm Exynos 7 Octa has eight CPU cores, which is a combination of four high-end Cortex A57 cores and four lower-end Cortex A53 cores in a big.LITTLE configuration. It is also a 64-bit chip.

This new processor should be making its debut on the Galaxy S6 based on previous rumours. Leaked benchmark results have already shown the S6 running on an Exynos 7420 processor. Although the numbers are impressive, the legitimacy is hard to be determined.

Come MWC 2015, we should see if this new 14nm Exynos 7 Octa will debut on the Galaxy S6.
