It seems that Xiaomi is taking a step further into the smart home industry. The Chinese company is looking to start testing four new smart home products on the 26th of January. Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin revealed the Xiaomi smart home app along with four smart devices at the GeekPark Innovation Festival in Beijing.

These beta devices include a motion sensor, an open/close sensor, a connected module home appliances and a hub to connect the devices through Wi-Fi. The motion sensor can sense human movement which could trigger an alarm or a security camera. When the temperature rises above a certain threshold, the sensor would automatically turn on the air conditioner. The open/close sensor can send a notification to your phone, informing users that their door or window has been opened. These devices integrate batteries that last for two years.

As these products are still in Beta, only a few Xiaomi fans’ household will get to test out Xiaomi’s smart home system for just 1 Yuan (about RM0.60). The company has also developed a “smart module” that costs 22 Yuan (about RM12.80) which allows hardware partners to integrate in their products to make them smart devices as well. It can be installed in most home appliances and would also work with the smart home app that Xiaomi is planning to launch.

Xiaomi plans to make their smart home products as convenient as possible for consumers as these devices do not require any professional installation. Previously, Xiaomi has announced a smart air purifier that could push pollution readings to phones and inform users to replace the filters. The list of announcements also included a light bulb that could change colours using a remote control.
