We all already know that the Apple Watch will not have a fantastic battery life. During the announcement of Apple’s first ever smartwatch, the Cupertino company mentioned that it requires daily charging and if you were hoping to see some numbers, here’s an insight reported by 9to5Mac.
According to sources from 9to5Mac, the Apple watch will use a powerful processor in its Watch along with a high-quality display, which contributes to battery drain. The S1 processor inside Apple Watch is pretty powerful and performs almost as well as the A5 processor found in the current iPod touch, while the Retina-class display can update at 60fps.
So, what are the numbers? According to the sources, the Watch can last about two to three days in standby mode, with up to 2.5 hours of heavy usage, 3.5 hours of standard usage, three hours if you keep the display active throughout, and offers four hours of fitness tracking. Apple hopes to achieve 4 hours of active application usage, 19 hours of combined active/passive use, 3 days of pure standby time, or 4 days on sleeping mode. Unfortunately, it looks like they may not be able to meet those numbers, not in the first generation Watch at least.
The company is also facing problems with its MagSafe-based charging mechanism on the Watch, which is reported to be “slower than expected”. If true, having a poor battery life and slow charging capability is definitely one of the worst combinations ever. The company is reported to have already sent out 3,000 units of its Watch for testing purposes, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that Apple can address these problems before its launch.
