It wouldn’t be Lenovo’s style to not introduce a slew of new products at a trade show, and it’s no different this year at CES 2015. To kick things off, the company has unveiled its next iteration of its selfie smartphone.

In 2013, Lenovo unveiled the Vibe X, touted as a selfie smartphone with its 5MP front-facing camera. At IFA last year the Chinese company announced the Vibe X2, complete with a “layered” design. Earlier today, the evolution of the selfie smartphone continues with the Vibe X2 Pro.

Just like the flagship Vibe Z2 Pro, the “Pro” moniker on the Vibe X2 comes with plenty of new premium features. The most noticeable is with the design: the layered smartphone is now fully made from metal, giving it an extra premium feel. Next, the Vibe X2 Pro packs 13MP camera sensors on both the front and rear cameras, similar to HTC’s Desire EYE.

In terms of hardware, the Vibe X2 Pro is essentially a different phone altogether compared to the Vibe X2. Instead of a MediaTek octa-core chipset, the Vibe X2 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz 64-bit octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. It also features a 5.3-inch Full HD IPS display, and has 32GB of onboard storage. This 140g smartphone also has a 2410mAh non-removable battery, and has support for LTE and WiFi a/c connectivities. Software-wise, the Vibe X2 Pro features the Vibe UI 2.0 skin, based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The user interface introduces new features such as a personalised lock screen and the all-important Instant On camera feature.

More importantly, the front 13MP camera supports gesture controls as well as the standard suite of beautification tools. Just as interesting is the introduction of the VIBE Xtension Selfie Flash to elevate your selfie-snapping capabilities to new heights. The Selfie Flash, which Lenovo claims to allow users to take “flawless” selfies. This little tool packs 8 diffused LEDs that is powered by inserting it into the 3.5mm audio jack, and syncs seamlessly with the camera app to fire when the user snaps a picture. On a single charge, the Selfie Flash lets you shoot up to 100 selfies. While the retail price of the Vibe X2 Pro is not known, the VIBE Xtension Selfie Flash will retail for US$29, and is only compatible with the Vibe X2 Pro.

Finally, Lenovo is actually marketing the Vibe X2 Pro as a limited edition device, which means it will only hit select markets in April this year. There’s no confirmation whether this device will be arriving in Malaysia, but Lenovo has confirmed that the Vibe X2 Pro is not US-bound.
