Windows 9 Technical Preview

It is not a secret that Microsoft is planning to unveil Windows 9 a.k.a Threshold to the world really soon. As we get closer to the rumoured date for the press event, two tech sites in Germany have published a set of screenshots from an early build of Windows 9 Technical Preview which provided an early look to the new operating system.

Among one of the first thing that we noticed from these screenshot is that there is no version number shown in the operating system. In another words, there is no mention of “Windows 9”. Instead, the OS is simply named as “Windows” which further strengthen the rumours that Microsoft is planning to unify its Windows branding and will be using the singular branding across all platform from PCs to smartphones.

As expected, the new Start menu is part of the leaked screenshots as well. If you have not heard of it, the Start menu on Windows 9 is a combination of pre-Windows 8 menu and Live Tiles similar to the one that was shown at Microsoft Build Developer Conference earlier this year.

The screenshot sets also revealed new design and user interface elements within Windows 9 such as Notifications Center, windowed Modern app on desktop, floating Modern app window, drop down menu on Modern app’s title and virtual desktops.

More screenshots are available at the source, so head on to either of the sites below to see them.
