As our previous report, we recently learned that ASUS Malaysia will receive a new batch of ASUS Zenfone 5 which features twice the amount of internal storage at 16GB as compared to the original unit that the company released into our market in June. What we didn’t know though is that it also comes with a different price tag.
Surprisingly, the new pricing is much lower than Zenfone 5’s original RM 599 price tag.
Specifically, the new Zenfone 5 with 16GB storage is priced at RM 519 according to Dynamics Distribution which is one of the retail distributor for ASUS mobile products in Malaysia.
As mentioned previously, there are no further changes to the specs apart from the internal storage space. In fact, ASUS has retain the same AC501CG model number for the 16GB unit. Let’s hope that will not spark any confusion among everyone later on…
Meanwhile, we have no official info from ASUS Malaysia whether the company intends to fully replace the 8GB model with the new 16GB variant or continue to offer it in our market. If ASUS Malaysia decided to retain the 8GB unit in Malaysia, it might want to reduce its pricing though since it doesn’t make sense if the new 16GB model costs less than the older 8GB model.
