The next installment in the Civilization series will take players into space, giving the franchise a new science fiction spin. Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is intended to be the spiritual successor to Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, which was published all the way back in 1999.
Unlike Civilization which takes on a historical view of things, Beyond Earth has the player leading his people into space to colonise an alien planet; and to establish a whole new civilization in space.
Fans of the Sid Meier series of games have been waiting for this sort of announcement for a very long time; while it is not a new Alpha Centauri, it is good enough. Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is due out on PC in autumn, 2014.
