Who could say no to free internet, especially when it’s for usage when you’re in a different country? U Mobile has been offering free internet roaming with its postpaid plans for a while now, and they have just extended it to prepaid users as well. Just top up a minimum of RM50, and you will automatically get free internet roaming for 30 days. The catch? It’s limited.

Free internet roaming on U Mobile started off with only 7 countries but U Mobile has recently added in two new countries – Australia and India. India is limited to postpaid users for the moment, but U Mobile says that prepaid users who travel to India in the future will be able to enjoy free internet as well though, no specific timeline was mentioned. The list of countries with free internet roaming for U Mobile prepaid users include Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

No subscription is required, just top up a minimum of RM50, and you will get 50MB of free data everyday for 30 days – that’s 50MB each day for 30 days from the date the top up is made. Do make sure you are connected on the right network in the country.

But do be careful though, to enjoy the free internet roaming with U Mobile Prepaid, you will have to activate data roaming on your mobile device. Once you exceed the 50MB daily quota, you will be charged at a pay-per-use basis, which could sum up to as much as RM30/day in those countries. U Mobile will send you a notification at 80% and 100% usage, but do check regularly just in case. To check your usage, just dial *118*6*3*2# on your mobile device.

Sure, 50MB sounds very little, especially in this day and age where practically everything is connected, so what is 50MB good for? Basic text-only things like status updates on Facebook and Twitter, chatting on WhatsApp and such, and even navigating around.

U Mobile free internet roaming is available for all U Mobile prepaid subscribers, as well as for selected postpaid users (Unlimited Postpaid Plan, Ultimate Device Plan and Business Postpaid Plans). Postpaid users in the mentioned plans will automatically enjoy free internet roaming in these 9 countries, while prepaid users need to top up at least RM50 to get 50MB of data a day for 30 consecutive days.
