LG Introduces the AKA, an Extremely Cute Android Smartphone with Facial Expressions

LG AKA 1

LG Korea has just taken the curtains off the LG AKA smartphone and no, it’s not your average Android device. Unveiled in LG’s homeland, the AKA is a smartphone with its own personality.

The AKA comes with different front covers (LG calls it a mask) that can transform the device into one of four different characters – Eggy (yellow), Wookie (white), Soul (blue) and YoYo (pink). With the case installed, animated eyes will peep out from top, providing users with vital information about their device such as notifications and battery status.

The animated eyes will also react to different situations like when you shake the phone, you’ll get “dizzy” spiral eyes, when the headphone is plugged in, the character on the screen will also have headphones on, or when the battery is low, the eyes will become sleepy and light up as it gets powered up.

From the advertorial (in Korean, sadly), it looks like there are also several software features to make the AKA smartphone even more fun such as a widget for you to play with these characters on the homescreen (kind of reminds me of Tamagotchi), and a “Snap shot” camera.

Specs wise, the AKA isn’t too shabby either. It features a 5” 720p display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Other specs include LTE connectivity, 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera, 2610mAh removable battery, NFC, and runs on Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box.

The LG AKA is available today in South Korea, LG did not mention anything about the pricing. Am I the only one who thinks that the AKA is so cute that I wouldn’t mind getting one? Sadly, it is unlikely that LG will be bringing the device to international market.
