Apple is rumored to announce new iPads and more on 16 October 2014 but you don’t have to wait till then to see the details of the upcoming tablets from the Cupertino company. Details of the next generation iPad Air has recently been posted online, originating from “trusted sources within the Apple manufacturing chain”.
The iPad Air 2 will be 0.5mm slimmer than then current iPad Air, measuring at 7mm thin – you definitely wouldn’t want to sit on this one! In order to make the device thin, the display and glass are laminated into a single piece, just like the iPhones. With a thinner tablet, Apple has to remove the mute/vibration button and make the volume rocker buttons more inset.
The cameras will also get a slight upgrade, with the rear camera getting an 8MP sensor as opposed to the current 5MP one. As for the front camera, while no resolution has been mention, it is said that it will now support 720p FaceTime video calls. As for the chipset, as with previous rumors, Apple will be using the same A8 chip as the latest iPhones, but will have 2GB of RAM, possibly to assist with new multitasking capabilities. Other specs include 32GB/64GB/128GB of internal storage, TouchID fingerprint sensor, and NFC for Apple Pay.
On top of the next generation iPad Air, Apple is also expected to take the curtains off the iPad mini 3, iMac with Retina Display and launch the OS X Yosemite on the same date.
