NVIDIA‘s latest GeForce 900 and 900M series are set to be unveiled either in October or November, but its two highest-end models have already been benchmarked – and the GTX 980 has even been pictured.

The new GTX 900 series are NVIDIA’s latest-generation GPUs, featuring the Maxwell architecture. Boasting significantly improved graphics performance from Kepler, the new GTX 900 series promises to further boost NVIDIA’s graphics capabilities – and these set of benchmarks appear to confirm that.

Videocardz has managed to obtain 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark scores for two of NVIDIA’s highest-end GTX 900 series GPUs: the GTX 980, GTX 970, as well as the mobile versions of the two cards – the GTX 980M and GTX 970M. The SLI performance of the GTX 980 and GTX 980M were also revealed.

NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-980-GTX-970-Fire-Strike-comparison

Right off the bat, it is easy to see that the GTX 980 is currently the fastest single-GPU graphics card in the market based on these FireStrike scores. Even at the lowest clock speed of 1127MHz, the GTX 980 beats all current-gen single-card GPU except for the GTX 780 Ti (and even then it isn’t by very much). Oddly enough, the SLI configuration is slightly slower than AMD’s Radeon R9 295X2.

On the other hand, the GTX 970 appears to be slightly slower than the GTX Titan, but is still faster than the Radeon R9 290. That being said, the GM204 GPU is said to be perfectly comfortable running at least 10% faster from the base 1051MHz clock speed of the GTX 970, so its overclocking capabilities should push it past the R9 290X and the GTX Titan.

NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-980M-GTX-970M-Fire-Strike-comparison

As for the GTX 900M series, the new GTX 980M and GTX 970M are easily faster than any other mobile GPU in the market. The slower GTX 970M comfortably beats the AMD Radeon R9 290X and the older GTX 880M, while the GTX 980M SLI outperforms the GTX 880M SLI by an amazing 57% on 3DMark Fire Strike.

You can check out more benchmark tables and images on the source links. In the meantime, feast your eyes on these images of the GTX 980.
