[IFA 2014] Lenovo Reveals the MediaTek-Powered Vibe X2 and 64-bit Vibe Z2 Smartphones

Lenovo-Vibe-Z2 Lenovo has revealed two new smartphones at IFA 2014, one of which is its first 64-bit smartphone. The Lenovo Vibe Z2 brings some impressive specifications to the table, and provides some variety to the smartphone market. On the other hand, the Lenovo Vibe X2 takes a different approach by being the first manufacturer to use Mediatek’s latest MT6595 processor. The Vibe Z2 runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 quad-core 64-bit processor, along with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The outside is a 5.5-inch extra bright HD display putting out a resolution of 1280 x 720.  Interestingly enough, it does not feature a microSD expansion slot, although the internal storage should be sufficient for most users. Everything else can be stored on the cloud. Lenovo has fitted the Z2 with a 3000mAh battery that it claims will last for 28 hours on 3G; however, it doesn’t say how long the battery will last on 4G LTE.

Lenovo’s Vibe X2 is similar to the Z2 in that it also runs with 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, and a 13MP rear facing camera. However, it instead uses the new MediaTEK MT6595 4G LTE True8Core processor. It is hard to say how this affects performance without actually seeing the phone; leaving any speculation about value to come when the phone is released. The Vibe X2 is also the smaller of the two phones at 5-inches but with a 1920 x 1080 FHD display.

Both phones will be available in China in October and will slowly make their way through Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. The Lenovo Vibe Z2 will retail for US$429, while the Lenovo Vibe X2 will be at US$399.
