Xiaomi’s updated Redmi Note, which now supports 4G LTE connectivity, has just been announced. Unfortunately, it is only compatible with China Mobile’s TDD-LTE network, which is not supported anywhere else in the world. Xiaomi has reached out to us with more information about the availability of the new phablet for international markets.
China’s LTE networks are a little different to the rest of the world. The TDD-LTE network is only used by China Mobile, while another carrier, China Unicom, uses the FDD-LTE network – the one that’s used in a majority of countries throughout the world. At the official announcement, the LTE Redmi Note that is available now is the TDD-LTE version for China Mobile. Xiaomi has now reached out to us with more information, where the FDD-LTE variant for China Unicom will be available to order from 26 August onwards.
For the international markets such as Singapore, Malaysia and others, Xiaomi has revealed that the FDD-LTE variant will be made available outside of China at the end of this year. There’s no concrete date yet, as Xiaomi says there are various tests that need to be done, including the local networks and firmware, before they can go on sale.
When it eventually makes its way to Malaysia, it is likely that the price will not deviate much from the 999 Yuan RRP.
