Just when we’re all expecting to see Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 in upcoming flagship smartphones – HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2, etc., and the Snapdragon 805 this “summer”, Qualcomm has went ahead and announced the Snapdragon 808 and Snapdragon 810 processor, which will be coming in the first half of 2015.

So what’s new in the Snapdragon 808 and 810 processors? First up, just like the Snapdragon 610 and 615 that were announced in MWC 2014, these new 20nm chips will come with 64-bit support however, they will be packed with more powerful stuffs on board.

The octa-core 810 is the more powerful of the two, featuring four Cortex-A57 cores to handle power-intensive tasks and four lower-power Cortex-A53 cores to handle the regular stuffs. It will also come with support for 4K interface and video, upgraded camera suite like dual Image Signal Processors, Bluetooth 4.1, Adreno 430 GPU that is 30% faster than the 420, Cat 6 LTE-Advance, new ways to interact with the phone like voice activation, and many more.

As for the Snapdragon 808, everything will be slightly less powerful like 6 cores (two Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53), support for 2K, LPDDR3 RAM and Adreno 418 GPU that is 20% faster than Adreno 330. These chipsets will begin sampling in the second half of this year and are expected to be available in commercial devices by the first half of 2015. Now, we’re all expecting phone manufacturers to announce new flagship devices every year without fail, but with this new announcement from Qualcomm, will it stop you from wanting to get a new phone right now, and wait for next year? Or for those of you who are hoping to see Snapdragon 805-powered devices later this year (one from Sony perhaps?), will you reconsider that again?
