Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 to Beijing missing

Malaysia Airlines has confirmed that flight MH370 enroute to Beijing has lost contact with Air Traffic controllers at 2.40am this morning. The 12.41am flight which left KLIA was expected to land at Beijing at 6.30am. The B777-200 aircraft was carrying 227 passengers including two infants, and 12 crew members. Malaysia Airlines have confirmed that authorities have activated a search and rescue procedure for the missing aircraft.

What we know so far

  • Flight left KLIA for Beijing at 12.41am
  • Flight lost contact at 2.40am
  • No distress call
  • Last known position 120 nautical miles off Kota Bharu.
  • Plane lost contact while cruising at 35,000 ft.
  • Weather conditions in area where plane lost contact was clear
  • Rumours surfaces that plane landed at Nanming – confirmed not true
  • Rumours that plane might have suffered a catastrophic disaster as there were no warning or distress calls from Pilots
  • Vietnamese claim to have found plane’s distress signal – confirmed not true
  • Chinese navy vessels join in search
  • Vietnamese navy confirms that plane crashed into sea near Tho Chu Island
  • 2.30pm Press Conference : No wreckage has been found, no confirmation of sea crash – Hishammudin
  • 2.30pm Press Conference : Malaysian Navy mobilised to assist in search and rescue.
  • 2.30pm Press Conference : All Malaysian Airports remains open  and all flights to continue as scheduled.
  • 4.30pm The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has joined in the search.
