One of the most touted feature from the 4th generation Intel Core processor is the significant improvement over the ability of its integrated GPU which is best represented by the Intel Iris Pro Graphics. That being said, Iris Pro is currently limited to certain laptop processors as well as the R-series processors which are designed to be soldered directly onto motherboard.
However, that is about to change with the upcoming arrival of the 14nm 5th generation Intel Core processors codenamed Broadwell.
This will be the first time that Iris Pro Graphics is made available on desktop PC through socketed processors. However, I predict that Iris Pro will only be made available in higher-end models since Iris Pro is associated with unlocked 5th gen Core processors in the presentation slide above.
The Intel Broadwell processors will be supported by Intel 9 Series chipset just like the newly announced Devil’s Canyon and Pentium Anniversary Edition processors. However, these are the only details that Intel has revealed regarding its new Broadwell processors in its announcement at Game Developers Conference today.
No release date was announced as well, so I guess we will only able to learn more about Broadwell processors once Intel is finally ready to ship them out sometime in the near future.
