Lenovo S860

At the on-going MWC 2014 show in Barcelona, it looks like Lenovo too has got something to show off. The Chinese company just took the curtains off three new budget Android smartphones – the Lenovo S660, S850 and S860. The S860 is the most powerful one of them all featuring a 1.3GHz MediaTek CPU beneath a 5.3” 720p display. It has 2GB of RAM, an 8MP rear shooter, 1.6MP front camera and an impressive 4,000mAh battery that can double up as a powerbank for you to power up your other microUSB devices.

Other specs include Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, dual-SIM, 16GB of internal storage, dual front-facing speakers, and sadly only offers 3G connectivity but if you are going to use that whopping 4.000mAh battery to charge up your other gadgets, the lack of LTE may actually be a good idea. To be available in selected countries, the Lenovo S860 will launch with a retail price of USD349 (about RM1,150).

Lenovo S850

Next up, the Lenovo S850 packs slightly lower specs but in a premium body featuring glass exterior that is targeted at the fashionable market. It comes with a slightly smaller IPS display compared to the S860 – 5” 720 x 1280 IPS display. Beneath that is the same 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor found on the S860, along with 1GB of RAM, 3G support, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and dual-SIM connectivity.

Other specs include 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 16GB of internal storage, measures at 0.32” thin, and is very light weight. The Lenovo S850 may look like its sibling with very similar specs however for half the battery size (2,000mAh) and different specs that isn’t all that bad, the retail price is a lot cheaper at only USD$269, that’s about RM880.

Lenovo S660

Finally, the Lenovo S660 is the most affordable of them all. It has a 4.7” IPS display with a resolution of 540 x 960. Beneath that is the same 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor found on the other two devices. Other specs include 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera, VGA front shooter, 8GB internal storage expandable via microSD, 3G connectivity, 3,000mAh battery, and dual-SIM.

Design wise, the S660 features a brushed metal back that is scratch and fingerprint resistant. It measures at a good 9.95mm thin, nothing too impressive, but I’m pretty sure it will provide for a rather good grip. It will retail at USD$229 at launch, RM750 for a mid-range Android phone? That’s not too bad, right?
