2014 will definitely be an exciting year for 4K content, Sony has just unveiled its compact 4K Handycam at the on-going CES 2014. Unlike the prosumer 4K Handycam announced at IFA 2013, the new FDR-AX100E looks like your average consumer camcorder with a body small enough to be operated using one hand.
The AX100E is the first 4K Handycam to feature a large back-illuminated 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS sensor, allowing it to capture flawless 4K Ultra HD images (3840 x 2160) with four times the detail of Full HD. The 4K sensor is also paired with the company’s BIONZ X image processor for a more vivid and lifelike footage that’s closer than ever to reality. It comes with a newly-developed ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens with 12x optical zoom on board.
Other specs include 7-blade aperture on the ZEISS lens, Optical SteadyShot, Dual Video Recording that records high quality movie clips and ready-to-share MP4 files simultaneously, capture movies in XAVC S up to 4K/60Mbps or HD/50Mbps or AVCHD format, NFC connectivity, and HDMI out that supports 4K.
