ASUS may have launched a series of new devices at its “We Transform” media event earlier today, but the presence of the 2013 Google Nexus 7, used by Li Huai Pin, Country Product Manager for Tablets, caused quite a stir among tech journalists present at the event.

At the Q&A session, Li confirmed that ASUS Malaysia would be bringing the second-generation Nexus 7 tablet to Malaysia sometime in mid-September, but here’s a quick teaser for those who wish to see more about the device.

Article continues after the jump.

The ASUS Nexus 7 was announced late last month, featuring a superior Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and optional 4G LTE. It is both thinner and lighter than 2012’s model, with vastly superior hardware. The first thing that can be noticed about the new Nexus 7 is the display. Not only does the 1920 x 1200 screen offers best-in-class pixel density, the screen quality is immediately arresting, with impressive colour saturation.

The second thing that is immediately noticeable is the omission of the textured back of the old Nexus 7 in favour of a soft touch rubberized back. It provides greater comfort and provides a more reassuring grip on the tablet, which in addition to the narrower chassis makes it much easier to hold with one hand.

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to see the Nexus 7 for long at the event, leaving us with nothing more but a brief hands-on time with the tablet. We will, naturally, be spending more time with the new Nexus 7 tablet very soon, so stay tuned!
