The announcement of the new Intel Haswell fourth-generation Core processors is set to bring forth a slew of new devices powered by the new Intel processors, as well as refreshed editions of the current flagship Ultrabooks in the past year or so. Taiwanese manufacturers Acer has not only announced the first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet at this year’s Computex 2013, but has also refreshed two of its most popular Ultrabooks with Haswell and more.

The Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook was one of the very first Ultrabooks to make its way to the Malaysian market back in 2011, and now it has received a long-overdue refresh. Featuring the new Intel Haswell processors, the new Aspire S3 now sports an NVIDIA GT735M discrete GPU as well as a 1TB hard disk drive. The 1.67kg Aspire S3 is now also fully clad in one piece of aluminium, sports a 180-degree hinge that allows it to lie flat similar to the Aspire S7) and more importantly, sports a Full HD IPS touchscreen – a massive bump in specs compared to 2011’s model.

In addition, Acer’s new flagship Aspire S7 Ultrabook has been further refined. The company has not only equipped the new S7 with Haswell chips, but the new Ultrabook will also feature an optional 2560 x 1440 high-resolution touchscreen on top of the base Full HD IPS touch display. Also, the battery now has 34% more juice, with a 47Wh pack installed compared to the 35Wh in last year’s edition. Otherwise, this 13-inch Ultrabook retains the same set of specs as before: two USB 3.0 ports 128GB SSD, all in a 1.3kg chassis with Gorilla Glass lid.

Both the Acer Aspire S7 and S3 Ultrabooks will hit the market in July, with prices starting from €999 (around RM4015)  for the Aspire S3, and €1,450 (around RM5830) for the flagship Aspire S7. Given that European market prices have always been significantly higher than in the US and Asia, do expect the retail prices to be lower when these sexy Ultrabooks make their way to this side of the world.
