One of the earliest product announcements at this year’s Mobile World Congress, after the peculiar Samsung Galaxy Note 8, is Huawei’s successor to the Ascend P1. Naturally, it’s called the Ascend P2. And like the Ascend P1 before it, the Ascend P2 packs some impressive hardware at an equally impressive price.

The Huawei Ascend P2 packs in a quad-core 1.5GHz K3V2 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. It packs a 4.7-inch 720p IPS In-Cell Display, where the touch panel is built into the display and is sensitive enough to be used even with gloves on. Also, the display uses the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for increased durability. There’s a 13MP BSI camera at the back with HDR capability, and a 1.3MP front-facing module. Unfortunately, there is only 16GB of storage on the Ascend P2, and is not expandable via microSD. It will also run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with Huawei’s Emotion UI.

The large 2420mAh battery in the Ascend P2 is complemented by a Quick Charge feature, which decreases charging times by 25%. Huawei’s proprietary power saving features, QPC and ADRX, are also present here, which further increases battery life. It is also the first smartphone to feature support for LTE Cat4, which has download speeds of up to 150Mbps. Finally, the 8.4mm Ascend P2 also sports a new Infinity Pool front panel design, where the black bezels slope out at the top and bottom of the phone.

The Huawei Ascend P2, which comes in black and white, will be available globally in Q2 of this year, and will be priced in Europe at a very competitive €399, which is around €200 less than other flagship devices in the market. Not bad for a device Huawei is touting as the world’s fastest smartphone.
