Take Self Portraits to the Next Level with the Oppo Ulike 2

Move aside, HTC: your 2.1MP wide-angle front-facing camera just got bested.

Oppo is slowly making a name for itself as a niche smartphone maker. Not in the sense that it’s a luxury smartphone brand, but as a company that produces smartphones with plenty of firsts (it may be a Chinese brand, but we feel they’re definitely Malaysian at heart): the world’s thinnest smartphone (not you, iPhone 5), one of the first Full HD smartphone displays, and now the first smartphone with a 5MP front-facing camera. You read that right, five megapixels in front.

As a smartphone, the Oppo Ulike 2 is essentially a mid-range performer, running on Android 4.0 with 1GB of RAM. It also sports a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 LCD screen and an outer shell that mildly resembles the Nokia Lumia 920 with its rounded back. As with all Oppo smartphones, this is a China-exclusive device.

However, this is clearly a smartphone targeted at the ladies. With its pearl white body and, of course, 5MP front facing camera (there’s an 8MP one at the back), the front camera even has beautification features such as face slimming, skin whitening, skin smoothing and more. Now, if that doesn’t satisfy the camwhore in women, nothing will.

The Oppo Ulike 2 will hit Chinese shelves December 19, with an as-yet undisclosed price.
