Friendly Fire, Friendly Fire! HTC Takes Jab at Nokia as WP8 Heats Up

Forget Samsung’s videos poking fun at Apple’s fanboys – the fight is shifting internally now…in the Windows Phone 8 ecosystem, that is. Fresh from its belated release, WP8 is finally gaining some traction, and with that, some not-so-friendly fire between WP8 phone makers.

Take, for example, HTC. Soon after they released their “signature” WP8 devices, many sections have branded the Windows Phone 8X and 8S as Lumia rip-offs – perhaps rightly so: polycarbonate unibody in a variety of funky colours in a rectangular chassis…it wasn’t easy to differentiate at a glance.

Earlier this morning, HTC has fired the first salvo against what will be a very interesting battle to be top dog in the WP8 ecosystem. Posting a photo on its Facebook page showing nothing more than the 8X and a stack of 25 pennies, the caption said it all: the gloves are off on this one.

Don’t get weighed down. The HTC 8X is more than 20 pennies lighter than that “other” Windows Phone.

According to GSMarena, a penny weighs 2.5 grams, making 20 of them weigh 50g. So, the 8X weighs 50g lower than the Nokia Lumia 920.

We’ve nothing against HTC, but honestly, 50 grams is nothing to complain about, considering the PureView camera on the Lumia 920 obliterates every single smartphone camera out there – except, of course, the 808 PureView.

Perhaps it’s a good move for Nokia to accelerate its distribution of their new Lumias in all regions so that the people can judge for themselves.
