Opensignal has released its Malaysia Mobile Network Experience – November 2025 report, offering a fresh breakdown of how the country’s major operators stacked up over the past year. The latest findings show noticeable shifts in several categories, with underdog Unifi surprisingly emerging as the biggest overall winner.

According to the report, Unifi users enjoy the fastest download speeds in Malaysia, which Opensignal says is around 13% faster than U Mobile. The Telekom Malaysia (TM) operated mobile service provider also claimed the top spot for Voice App Experience, and is the only operator to score in the “Good” category for voice quality. Additionally, Opensignal shows Unifi leading the regional rankings by a wide margin, securing 33 sole wins and 100 shared wins across the country.

Another key trend highlighted in the report is the growing impact of 5G availability on the overall user experience. As Malaysians spend more time connected to the network, performance improvements are becoming more obvious, especially in download speeds, streaming quality, and mobile gaming. Opensignal notes that all major operators saw meaningful gains as 5G usage continued to rise.

One of the headline results this year comes from CelcomDigi, which wins the Consistent Quality award for the first time with a score of 71.7%. This places it four percentage points ahead of Maxis, indicating stronger day-to-day stability for demanding apps and real-world usage scenarios.

Speaking of which, the green telco retains its stronghold on reliability, leading Opensignal’s Reliability Experience category with 874 points – outperforming CelcomDigi and Unifi. Meanwhile, YTL’s Yes 5G continues its advantage in overall signal presence, winning the Time on Network award with a 99% score.

What about Malaysia’s second 5G network operator U Mobile? Thankfully not a consolidatory award, the orange telco took the 5G Availability award with 57.8%, placing it six percentage points ahead of Maxis. Opensignal attributes this to U Mobile’s recent 5G Standalone launch and rapid expansion of its 5G footprint. Regardless, despite recent claims, it appears that the telco needs plenty of brushing up to do.

While Opensignal’s metrics provide valuable independent insights, they may not fully reflect real-world user experience. Combined with the 5G marketing narratives from the operators themselves, actual performance may leave users with a different impression than the rankings suggest.
