A few days ago, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the open payment toll collection system utilising Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology was in the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. Later, it was reported that some of the alleged entities have submitted proposals, which include JustGo Digital Bhd.
Recently, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan updated that the Works Ministry is evaluating the possibility of implementing the ANPR technology alongside the JustGo application. This system allows Malaysians to pay for tolls using bank cards, prepaid cards, or payment via the application. This proposal was submitted by the highway concessionaire, PLUS Bhd, as an expansion of the Open Toll Payment System (SPT).

“Under this new proposal, ANPR will automatically detect vehicle registration numbers and process toll payments through the JustGo application,” he said at the Dewan Rakyat today. He also added that the SPT system has been implemented on 26 highways.
According to Ahmad, the ministry is evaluating several key parameters before launching a pilot project for the ANPR and JustGo system. The evaluation includes the capability and accuracy of the ANPR system in detecting vehicle number plates, as well as the application’s transaction speed and reliability.

He added that system security and overall dependability are also being prioritised, including the performance of the JustGo app in real operational conditions. “These tests are crucial to ensure the system can handle high traffic volumes and support continuous toll operations without disruption,” he added.
