Gabe Newell, better known as both Lord Gaben and the founder of Valve and the owner of Steam, recently made waves, figuratively and literally, after he took ownership of his super yacht. By super, that’s both in price and the sheer size of the damn thing.
Gabe’s ship is known as the Leviathan, and was built by the company Oceanco. Price-wise, the entire super yacht cost US$500 million (~RM2.06 billion). To put that number into layman’s terms: that’s a lot of games sold, as well as oodles of in-game purchases.

The Leviathan super yacht is 111 metres long and is now the 50th largest yacht, but more importantly, it is also the “most comfortable yacht ever designed” by Oceanco. “Working with the team at Oceanco is incredibly enjoyable and a lot of fun; everybody is professional, creative and dynamic,” said Newell. “We knew we were asking for unusual things, and Oceanco embraced it with open arms. Not only have we designed a very unusual yacht that leans into Oceanco’s strengths of innovation and design, but the team has also been willing to collaborate with us on evolving the process.”
So, what does US$500 million get you? For starters, there’s a submarine garage for small boats and submarines (submarines!) to dock in the middle of the sea. Additionally, there are approximately 280 miles of cables wrapped around the yacht, powering everything from the 15 premium gaming PCs onboard to the spa, bar, and onboard clinic.

Yes, you read that last bit right. Gabe specifically asked that Oceanco build a full-functioning clinic onboard the Leviathan, complete with a live-in nurse. Clearly, the man understands that if you’re going to be living on the high seas for prolonged periods of scuba diving, you may as well have medical facilities available, too. On that note, Gabe’s room sounds surprisingly tame – parquet flooring, ash cabinetry, and a large bathroom.
Finally, to power the Leviathan, the super yacht has a diesel-electric power plant built onboard, plus a battery storage system that allows it to operate for long stretches with no emissions, plus an advanced wastewater treatment system.
