As Malaysia continues to advance its AI ambitions, the Home Ministry (KDN) will implement four key resolutions on the technology to enhance the country’s national security ecosystem. Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that these resolutions were reached at the AI Transformation for Security Symposium 2025.
The minister went on to explain that artificial intelligence is now integral to the security ecosystem, so these steps are crucial in ensuring KDN does not fall behind. These measures are intended to be the foundation for the ministry’s AI agenda, covering four focus areas.

The first resolution concerns trend and risk detection. In this area, KDN will improve smart city monitoring systems and digital intelligence to detect crime trends with AI. In addition to this, KDN plans to strengthen AI forensic capabilities.
Meanwhile, the second resolution is focused on smart border management. Aside from integrating artificial intelligence and other technologies into the country’s entry-point control systems, KDN intends to intensify its collaboration with enforcement agencies and telecommunications sectors. This is to develop and operate maritime surveillance and border control systems.

The last two resolutions involve digital and strategic information transformation, as well as AI-driven service delivery. The former relates to the KDN’s plan to develop an AI Policy Framework, while the latter is concerned with improving the ministry’s efficiency at service counters.

Saifuddin explained that the initial steps will be to ensure that ministry officers have basic AI knowledge and generative AI application skills. He also described the technology as a “generational opportunity”, stressing the need to embrace it to remain competitive. Additionally, the move lines up with the ministry’s shift to AI for addressing modern threats.
