BYD Malaysia is teasing a new model for its upcoming BYD Tech Discovery 2025 event in Malaysia, slated to commence on 14 until 16 November 2025 at Plaza Arkadia, Desa Parkcity. From the social media post it shared, it appears that the vehicle in question is its Shark PHEV pick-up truck based on the silhouette.
The model made its regional debut earlier this year at the Bangkok Motor Show in Thailand, with an expected launch back in September. However, in August, due to a weak demand, the model was cancelled.
Well, in Malaysia it could be a different story altogether. As a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is the only one in production, it is very likely that this model will be appearing during the event. Although, it should be noted that an all-electric (EV) model has been mentioned before, but it has yet to materialise.
With that in mind, here are some of the key specifications to expect. In terms of design, the Shark features a boxy body profile with a bold front fascia that incorporates rectangular LED headlights and distinctive C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The look is enhanced by a full-width light bar and integrated fog lights, giving it a rugged appeal.
At the rear, the design continues with rectangular taillights connected by another full-width LED light strip. Additional exterior highlights include side steps, roof rails, and electrically adjustable, heated side mirrors, all contributing to both functionality and style.
Inside, the Shark offers a cabin featuring imitation leather-wrapped seats, with the front seats equipped with heating and ventilation functions. The interior also includes a multi-function steering wheel wrapped in genuine leather.
For connectivity and technology, the PHEV pickup is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional highlights include a head-up display, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system for an immersive audio experience.
Under the hood, the Shark is built on BYD’s Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO) Super Platform, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine producing 135 kW and 260 Nm of torque. This is paired with a dual-motor setup, where the front motor generates 170 kW and 310 Nm, and the rear motor delivers 150 kW and 340 Nm. Combined, the system outputs 321 kW and 650 Nm, enabling the truck to sprint from 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Powering the setup is a 29.58 kWh BYD Blade Battery, providing an electric-only range of around 100 km and a combined range of up to 800 km. Charging options include AC charging up to 7 kW and DC fast charging up to 55 kW.
For off-road capability, the truck features double wishbone suspension at both the front and rear, and offers a towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg. It also boasts an approach angle of 31 degrees, a departure angle of 19.3 degrees, a wading depth of 700 mm, and a ground clearance of 230 mm.
