Apple is said to have reportedly shelved plans for a second-generation iPhone Air, following weaker-than-expected demand. Doubling down on a prior rumour, a recent report by The Information is now suggesting that the tech giant has “already sharply scaled back production” of the ultra-thin model and informed engineers as well as suppliers that the next version has been taken off the development schedule without a new release date.
The report adds that Foxconn, one of Apple’s key manufacturing partners, has reportedly dismantled most of its production lines for the device and expects to halt all assembly by the end of November. Luxshare, another production partner, had already ended manufacturing by late October.

The company’s revised schedule now points to a simplified iPhone lineup next year, consisting of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the much rumoured iPhone Fold. Meanwhile, the base iPhone 18 and the budget-friendly iPhone 18e are expected to launch in spring 2027.
Despite the setback, there’s still a chance that Apple might revive the iPhone Air line. One source told The Information that the product could undergo a major redesign, with a possible launch window as early as spring 2027, alongside the standard iPhone 18 models.

The iPhone Air 2 was originally expected to debut in autumn 2026, with early plans reportedly included a lighter design, larger battery capacity and the addition of a vapor chamber cooling system similar to the one equipped on this year’s iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Some reports also suggested the device would feature a dual-camera setup.
Whether all of these rumours are true or not remains to be seen. With such a long way to go, Apple’s roadmap could still change significantly before the next iPhone cycle takes shape.
