Toyota Motor Thailand has unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux, now officially named the Hilux Travo. For the first time, the iconic pickup is offered as a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). The debut comes after leaks from an earlier presentation at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show.
In terms of design, the BEV Hilux features a redesigned front fascia with slim, angular LED headlights and a closed-off grille showcasing a geometric pattern, enhancing its bold and rugged appearance. The rear end sports sharp horizontal taillights, a new rear deck step for easier access, and a reworked side step for added practicality.
Inside, the cabin adopts a clean, sharp, and minimalistic layout, highlighted by a 12.3-inch infotainment display and an eight-inch digital instrument cluster. The BEV variant introduces a single-action shift-by-wire drive selector, while the newly designed horizontal centre console houses physical buttons for driver convenience.
The powertrain features a dual-motor setup, with the front motor producing 83 kW and 205 Nm of torque, while the rear motor generates 131 kW and 269 Nm. The Hilux BEV is powered by a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a WLTP range of 240 km. Further, pre-homologation data indicate approximate figures of 715 kg for payload capacity and 1,600 kg for towing capacity.

Despite adopting a BEV form, it retains the fundamental strength of the Hilux’s signature body-on-frame construction and is engineered for off-road performance, including specific measures to protect the battery from damage or water ingress. The Hilux BEV further benefits from a Multi-Terrain Select system, which adapts vehicle performance to suit different off-road terrains using brake and torque control. Additionally, it features a refined suspension system and adopts Electric Power Steering (EPS).

In terms of safety, the ninth-generation Hilux comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3 (TSS 3), offering enhanced pre-collision and lane-keeping functions. It also includes a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) and a Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM), specifically designed to assist during off-road driving.
Alongside the BEV model, the all-new Toyota Hilux is also available in hybrid and internal combustion variants. According to Toyota, it plans to introduce the new Hilux from 2026 onwards in selected markets.
