DJI has officially launched its Osmo Mobile 8 smartphone gimbal in Malaysia. The device initially made its debut in China last month, introducing numerous upgrades including 360-degree rotation, improved tracking features, and more.
To recap, the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 retains the brand’s signature 3-axis stabilisation but now introduces unlimited 360-degree horizontal rotation, enabling smooth panoramic footage and dynamic tracking shots. It also keeps the built-in extension rod, providing more flexibility for low-angle videos and selfies.
A new multi-function tracking module has been added, integrating subject tracking, audio recording, and a fill light with adjustable brightness and colour temperature. The light module features motion detection, allowing automatic subject following, while hand gesture controls let users start or stop recording and adjust focus hands-free.
The Osmo Mobile 8 runs on DJI’s latest ActiveTrack 7.0 system, which promises smoother and more accurate tracking, even during fast movements. It also supports dual-camera tracking through the DJI Mimo app, letting users film with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously.
Physically, DJI has redesigned the magnetic clamp to better handle larger and heavier smartphones, including those with protruding camera modules, and it now works with Apple’s MagSafe mounts. The gimbal offers up to 10 hours of battery life, can serve as a power bank via USB-C, and supports DJI’s latest microphones, including the Mic 3, Mic Mini, and Mic series.
The Osmo Mobile 8’s specifications and features are retained for its global launch. But unlike its launch in China, DJI Malaysia is only offering the basic bundle locally, which includes the OM Magnetic Phone Clamp 4, tracking module, charging cable and other accessories. This set is priced at RM569, and is available now via the brand’s official stores and authorised dealers nationwide, as well as on Shopee.
