Rode officially announces its newest range of wireless microphones, creatively called the Wireless Micro Camera Kit. As per the official announcement, the new Camera Kit is said to offer “the same celebrated pristine audio quality, simplicity, and portability”, making it accessible to a broader set of content creators.”
The kit features a pair of transmitters with built-in microphones, a smartphone receiver, an on-camera receiver, and a charging case. It is worth mentioning the kit also includes two furry windshields for outdoor use, two magnetic attachments, one 3.5mm TRS to TRS patch cable, and one USB Type-C to Type-C cable.
The Wireless Micro Camera Kit is quite similar to Rode previous kits, save for the on-camera receiver, which features a cold shoe mount and a 1.1-inch AMOLED display. This display allows users to configure their audio setup on the spot while also providing battery data for all three units.
Users can connect the receiver to their cameras with the aforementioned 3.5 TRS or USB Type-C cable. Smartphone users, on the other hand, can simply plug in the USB Type-C receiver. iOS enjoyers have the added benefit of connecting to the transmitters directly via Bluetooth using the Rode Capture app.
Speaking of transmitters, Rode states that they feature ‘high-quality in-built microphones’ that can automatically pair with a receiver unit. The microphones themselves are said to have omnidirectional pickup patterns, allowing them to capture sound from every angle. It also has GainAssist technology, which the company states can automatically balance audio level, which removes the need for constant touch-ups and adjustments.
In terms of battery life, Rode did not specifically mention how long the receiver and transmitter will last. However, the company did note that the charging case can “deliver two full recharges, providing up to 21 hours of use”
The Rode Wireless Micro Camera Kit is available in the US for US$149 (~RM624). At the time of writing, it is still unknown when it will be available in Malaysia, if at all.
